Ghoulish Goodies

Over the weekend, I created some Halloween cupcakes. I tried to use on-hand items as much as possible.  I had a box of Devil’s food cake mix and canned chocolate frosting and vanilla frosting in the back of the cabinet. (I’m a sucker for those BOGO sales at the supermarket).

One box of cake mix made 24 lusciously delicious cupcakes. I used silver cupcake liners since those were on hand.

I had viewed a few websites regarding decorating Halloween cupcakes to get some ideas. One of which was a terrific site to have in your arsenal for next year is from Better Homes and Gardens:  http://www.bhg.com/holidays/halloween/recipes/17-frightfully-good-halloween-cupcakes/?page=4

The list of items I used is as follows:

  • Large Marshmallows
  • wooden skewers
  • green food coloring
  • red food coloring
  • Gummy Life Savers
  • Wintergreen Life Savers
  • large tube white decorating icing
  • small tube black decorating gel
  • individual-size bag M&M’s (only a few colors remained other than bright blue and brown)
  • a few slivered almonds
  • fork, for spiking icing (to look like hair)
  • a little bit of old white chocolate morsels
  • a few small glass mixing bowls to use with food coloring
  • individual-sized bag crunchy cheese puffs
  • white chocolate-covered pretzels (store-bought)
  • 1 black spider ring

So, here are my creations. The easiest to create were both the plain white chocolate-covered pretzels and the ones with the gummy Life Saver candies. Easy enough for children to create.    ENJOY!

About amrecipes

My love of cooking has taken over. I was on the net one day and saw an ad for a recipe contest. I entered. Then, I entered another. Then another, and so on and when I won a contest... an entire year's worth of tomato products, I was hooked. Since then, I've entered many many different recipe contests. I have won a trip to New York, entries into cook-offs, a recipe published in a Kraft/Paula Deen cookbook and many food products and food related items. I enjoy cooking and entering recipe contests. I hope I spark an interest in others to create something they can be proud of. I'm always getting more ideas from the internet. Wow, I remember not having the internet years ago. It's a God send and I'm trying to cover every inch of the food sites!! Join me in my quest to keep fresh ideas flowing and creating new and exciting dishes.

Way too cute…. You did a good job, and I’m sure you enjoyed decorating as much as any kid would.
